Job summary

VisionWorks in New York is seeking a part-time Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to support patient journeys, prepare for onsite and remote exams, perform pre-exam tests, and explain each step to patients. You will liaise between patients and Optometrists and participate in the initial steps of the patient journey.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience.
• Optical or healthcare background preferred.
• Medical office professionalism required.
• HS diploma, GED or equivalent related job experience.
• Training provided.

Responsibilities

• Completing patient registration, gathering and submitting pertinent patient information including Medical History and Ocular Health data into EMR.
• Assist onsite doctor with patient care and eye examinations. Explain the preliminary testing process to patients, administer each preliminary test and document results in EMR.
• For remote appointments, assist patients through remote eye exam process including pre-testing, remote conferencing and documenting results in EMR.
• Transition the patient to a retail associate after exam, conveying doctor recommendations.
• Understand MVC plans and articulate plan benefits to patients.
• Preauthorize insurance per SOPs.
• Schedule appointments and manage exam books, contact no-shows and cancellations.
• Maintain patient flow to support doctor effectiveness.
• Answer clinical questions in person/phone. Triage ocular emergencies and schedule annual eye exams.
• Maintain complete patient records per Company standards.
• Instruct patients on contact lens use and care.
• Place diagnostic contact lens orders and notify patients when lenses are available.
• Know contact lens brands/parameters and pull trials when requested.
• Ensure clean environment; maintain equipment and supplies; cover nightly.
• Participate in specialized training and achieve required certifications.
• Work flexible schedules including travel to other locations.
