Job summary

VisionWorks seeks a part-time Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to prepare patients for exams, perform pre-exam testing, and explain procedures. You will liaise between patients and Optometrists, supporting onsite and remote assessments and guiding patients through the journey with care.

The role requires a year of related experience, an optical/healthcare background preferred, and HS diploma or equivalent. Training is provided and there may be travel between stores.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience.
• Optical or Healthcare background preferred.
• Medical office/business professionalism required.
• HS diploma, GED or equivalent related job experience.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and collect medical history into EMR.
• Assist onsite doctor with eye examinations and document results.
• Explain preliminary testing to patients and document results in EMR.
• Support remote eye exams: pre-testing, remote conferencing, and additional testing.
• Transition patients to retail staff with doctor recommendations.
• Preauthorize insurance per SOPs.
• Schedule appointments and manage exam books with no-show/cancellation follow-up.
• Maintain patient flow for doctor effectiveness.
• Answer clinical questions and triage ocular emergencies.
• Maintain complete patient records per standards.
• Instruct patients on contact lens use and care.
• Place contact lens orders and stock appropriately.
• Know contact lens brands and parameters; retrieve trials when needed.
• Keep equipment and supplies clean and covered nightly.
• Participate in training and obtain required clinical certifications.
• Flex schedules and travel to other locations as needed.
