Job summary

Visionworks is seeking a part-time Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to help ensure a great patient experience, prepare patients for examinations, and explain each step of the process. The role interfaces between patients and Optometrists, supporting both onsite and remote exams.

Responsibilities include pre‑exam testing, medical history entry, insurance preauthorization, and collaboration with retail staff to schedule appointments and relay doctor recommendations. Training provided.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience is required.
• Optical or Healthcare background preferred.
• Professional medical office/business standards expected.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and enter medical history and ocular data into EMR.
• Assist onsite doctor, explain preliminary tests, and document results in EMR.
• Support remote eye exams, including pre-testing and video conferencing.
• Transition patients to retail associates with doctor recommendations.
• Preauthorize insurance and manage exam bookings with no-shows/cancellations.
• Maintain patient flow and answer clinical questions in person or by phone.
• Instruct patients on contact lens care and orders, stock, and availability.
• Ensure a clean, well-equipped environment and participate in training.
