Job summary

Blue Origin in Seattle, WA is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to design, develop, and implement optical manufacturing processes for aerospace hardware. You will drive DFM/DFA/DFT, author work instructions, and assemble a production flow with stakeholders to scale volumes against program requirements.

Minimum qualifications include a BS in an engineering field and 8+ years in optical imaging systems, plus experience with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and AS9100/ISO9001 knowledge.

Qualifications

• B.S. in an engineering field from an accredited university.
• 8+ years in prototyping/manufacturing/testing/calibration of optical systems.
• Experience developing manufacturing/assembly processes for optical elements.
• Knowledge of scaling production from prototypes to production volume.
• Experience authoring English-language work instructions and docs.
• Experience applying DFM/DFA/DFT principles.
• Ability to read GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and perform tolerance analysis.
• Familiarity with AS9100/ISO 9001 standards.
• Proven leadership in manufacturing operations and continuous improvement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Hands-on mindset across development to production lifecycle.
• U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Develop the production flow for optical products and testing.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to build manufacturing cleanroom space.
• Source and install optical equipment for manufacturing.
• Develop plans to scale production per program needs.
• Drive DFM/DFA/DFT with design engineering.
• Author and maintain manufacturing documentation across builds.
• Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Communicate status, risks, and challenges to management.
• Provide producibility feedback during GN&C hardware development.
• Support prototype builds and stand up manufacturing processes.
