Job summary

Blue Origin in Seattle seeks an experienced Senior Optical Manufacturing Engineer to lead production flow, testing, alignment and calibration of optical instruments for lunar vehicles. You will establish tests, equipment and cleanroom processes, and ramp production across programs.

You will partner with design engineers on DFM/DFA/DFT, maintain manufacturing docs, perform root-cause analyses, and drive continuous improvement while communicating risks to leadership.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Imaging Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related area of study.
  • 8+ years of experience prototyping, manufacturing, testing, and/or calibration of cameras, image sensors, lidar or optical imaging systems.
  • Experience developing manufacturing/assembly processes for optical elements or instruments with process control and root-cause analysis.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and apply tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Familiarity with AS9100/ISO 9001 quality and safety standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership in manufacturing operations and continuous improvement.
  • U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the production flow for optical products and all testing, alignment, and calibration required during manufacturing.
  • Work with key stakeholders to build out the manufacturing cleanroom space.
  • Identify and source the needed optical specialty equipment for manufacturing and coordinate purchase and installation.
  • Develop medium- and long-term plans for scaling production quantities and rates per program requirements.
  • Partner with design engineering to drive DFM, DFA, and DFT into the optical hardware.
  • Author and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions and process-flow diagrams.
  • Lead root cause analysis of process or product non-conformances and drive corrective actions.
  • Communicate development status, risks, and challenges to management.
  • Support GN&C camera and optical sensor hardware producibility feedback to design teams.
  • Support prototype builds and stand up related manufacturing processes.
