Job summary

Blue Origin seeks an experienced manufacturing engineering leader to design, develop, and implement production processes for aerospace optical hardware. You will translate design requirements into scalable, repeatable manufacturing methods, tooling, facilities, and systems to deliver quality products while ensuring compliance with contract specs and regulations.

Qualifications

• BS in Manufacturing Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
• 8+ years of related experience in prototyping, manufacturing, testing, or calibration of optical/electro-mechanical systems.
• Experience developing manufacturing/assembly processes for optical elements or instruments.
• Knowledge of scaling production from prototypes to production volume.
• Experience authoring English-language work instructions and manufacturing docs.
• Experience applying DFM, DFA, DFT principles.
• Ability to read complex GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and perform tolerance analysis.
• Familiarity with AS9100/ISO9001 and manufacturing quality standards.
• Proven leadership in manufacturing operations and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Develop production flow for optical products, testing, alignment, and calibration.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to build manufacturing cleanroom space.
• Source and install optical manufacturing equipment.
• Plan medium-/long-term production scaling per program needs.
• Drive DFM, DFA, DFT integration with design teams.
• Author and maintain manufacturing docs across all build versions.
• Lead root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Communicate development status, risks, and challenges to management.
• Provide producibility feedback for camera and sensor hardware.
