Job summary

AVP•SEES Group is seeking a Surgery Counselor to coordinate all aspects of ophthalmology surgical scheduling, acting as the liaison among patients, surgeons, and facilities. This role manages pre/post-operative appointments, authorizations, and patient education to ensure a seamless experience.

The candidate will handle insurance verifications, financial discussions, and maintain a compliant, high-quality patient journey while supporting scheduling policies and efficiency across locations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of two years of surgical scheduling experience in a healthcare setting, preferably ophthalmology.
• COA preferred.
• Advanced proven knowledge of all front desk procedures.
• Completion of at least 10 Qualifying SEES Advancement Credits every 24 months.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and schedule surgeries with accuracy in procedure details, provider availability, and facility coordination.
• Communicate with patients regarding surgery dates, instructions, and pre/post-operative care.
• Secure insurance authorizations and verify coverage.
• Ensure all pre-operative requirements are completed.
• Act as liaison between practice, facilities, and patients.
• Provide detailed financial information regarding costs, payment plans, and coverage.
• Maintain an organized scheduling system to prevent conflicts.
• Assist in scheduling policy development and workflow improvements.
• Follow up on post-operative appointments to ensure continuity of care.
• Ensure HIPAA and OSHA compliance and patient confidentiality.
• Resolve scheduling conflicts, cancellations, or patient concerns promptly.
