Job summary

SEES Group, LLC is seeking a Surgery Counselor to coordinate all aspects of surgical scheduling for ophthalmology patients. The role serves as the liaison between patients, surgeons, and facilities, handling pre-/post-operative appointments, authorizations, and patient education.

Responsibilities include securing insurance approvals, communicating schedules and costs, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA/OSHA.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of surgical scheduling experience in healthcare, ophthalmology preferred.
• COA preferred; knowledge of front desk procedures.
• Internal applicant must qualify Ophthalmic Tech II with leadership recommendation.
• Completion of 10 SEES Advancement Credits every 24 months.
• Strong knowledge of insurance verification, prior authorizations, and billing for surgical services.
• Experience with EHR systems and practice management software.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with patients, providers, and facilities.
• Ability to problem-solve, manage time efficiently, and handle high-pressure situations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and schedule surgeries with provider availability and facility coordination.
• Communicate with patients about surgery dates, instructions, and pre/post-operative care.
• Secure insurance authorizations and verify coverage for procedures.
• Ensure all pre-operative requirements are completed (clearances, testing).
• Act as liaison between practice, facilities, and patients for seamless coordination.
• Provide detailed financial information on costs, payment plans, and insurance coverage.
• Maintain an organized scheduling system to prevent conflicts.
• Contribute to scheduling policy development and workflow improvements.
• Follow up on post-operative appointments to ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain HIPAA and OSHA compliance and patient confidentiality.
