Job summary

AVP SEES Group is seeking a Surgery Counselor to coordinate all aspects of surgical scheduling for an ophthalmology practice. You will serve as the primary liaison between patients, surgeons, and facilities, handling pre/post-operative appointments, authorizations, and patient education.

Responsibilities include coordinating surgeries, communicating with patients, securing insurance approvals, and maintaining a smooth, HIPAA-compliant workflow to deliver a positive patient experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of two years of surgical scheduling experience in a healthcare setting.
• COA preferred.
• Strong knowledge of all front desk procedures and insurance verification.
• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems and practice management software.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with patients, providers, and facilities.
• Must have reliable transportation for travel to other locations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and schedule surgeries, ensuring accuracy in procedure details and provider availability.
• Communicate surgery dates and instructions to patients, including pre- and post-operative care.
• Secure insurance authorizations and verify coverage for procedures.
• Ensure all pre-operative requirements are completed before surgery.
• Provide patients with information on costs, payment plans, and insurance coverage.
• Maintain organized scheduling to prevent conflicts and optimize efficiency.
• Assist in development and implementation of scheduling policies and best practices.
