Job summary

AVPSEES Group is seeking a Surgery Counselor in Birmingham to coordinate all aspects of ophthalmology surgical scheduling. You will act as the liaison between patients, surgeons, and facilities, handling pre/post-operative appointments, authorizations, and patient education to ensure a seamless experience.

This role emphasizes HIPAA/OSHA compliance, strong communication, and meticulous scheduling while supporting a 20/20 patient experience through proactive registration and billing support.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
• Minimum of two years of surgical scheduling experience in healthcare, preferably ophthalmology.
• COA preferred and internal candidate requires leadership recommendation.
• Strong knowledge of insurance verification, prior authorizations, and billing for surgical services.
• Experience with EHR systems and practice management software.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and schedule surgeries with provider and facility coordination.
• Communicate surgery dates, instructions, and pre/post-operative care to patients.
• Secure insurance authorizations and verify coverage.
• Ensure all pre-operative requirements are completed.
• Provide patients with cost information, payment plans, and coverage details.
• Maintain organized scheduling to prevent conflicts and improve workflow.
• Monitor post-operative appointments for continuity of care.
• Comply with HIPAA and OSHA regulations.
• Resolve scheduling conflicts and patient concerns promptly.
