Job summary

Key Whitman Eye Center in Arlington, TX is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to work closely with clinic physicians to perform basic, advanced, and complex eye care tasks.

You will document patient records, input proposed treatments, and support diagnostic testing and patient education throughout procedures.

This role requires strong communication, attention to detail, and comfort with EMR systems in a fast-paced ophthalmology clinic.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year medical/ophthalmic scribe experience preferred.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Some college coursework or Associate degree preferred.
• JCAHPO certification preferred.
• CPR preferred.
• Proficient in EMR and computer literacy.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skill.

Responsibilities

• Obtains accurate patient history.
• Performs lensometry.
• Performs diagnostic testing of the eye with basic understanding of HVF, HRT, IOLmaster, biopen and fundus photography.
• Obtains accurate visual acuities with basic optics understanding.
• Demonstrates ability to perform functional ocular measurements (color vision testing, B AT testing, Schirmer tests, Amsler grid).
• Demonstrates ability to perform refractometry.
• Administers topical ophthalmic medications.
• Performs accurate tonometry by tonopen or applanation.
• Maintains and sterilizes surgical instruments.
• Assists physicians with instillation of punctual plugs.
• Communicates post-operative instructions clearly to patients.
• Understands basic ocular pharmacology; medication names and uses.
