Job summary

Key Whitman Eye Center in Plano, TX is hiring an Ophthalmic Assistant to work closely with clinic physicians, document medical records, and input treatment plans.

Responsibilities include obtaining patient history, performing lensometry and diagnostic testing, assisting with procedures, administering meds, and maintaining sterile instruments while upholding HIPAA and EMR standards.

This full-time position offers growth in ophthalmic care within a busy, patient-focused practice.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year Medical/Ophthalmic Scribe experience preferred.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Some college coursework or Associates degree preferred.
• JCAHPO certification preferred.
• CPR preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtains accurate patient history.
• Performs lensometry.
• Performs diagnostic testing of the eye (HVF, HRT, IOLMaster, biopen, fundus photography).
• Obtains accurate visual acuities with basic optics understanding.
• Measures ocular functions (color vision, refraction, Amsler grid).
• Performs accurate and repeatable refractometry.
• Administers topical ophthalmic medications.
• Performs tonometry (tonopen or applanation).
• Maintains and sterilizes surgical instruments and supplies.
• Assists physicians with procedures and post-operative instructions to patients.
• Keeps up-to-date knowledge of ocular pharmacology.
