Job summary

Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc (AMA) seeks a part-time CAD Model Design Intern to support the Flight Dynamics Research Facility at NASA Langley Research Center. The role focuses on developing ready-to-fabricate CAD models for free flight and forced-oscillation tests, with emphasis on geometry variations and mounting interfaces.

Responsibilities include creating models in .igs/.stp and native CAD formats, designing oscillation configurations, and enabling movable centers of gravity for wind

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or Graduate student in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• Minimum of 2 years CAD modeling experience or 2 semesters of relevant CAD coursework.
• Experience with .igs or .stp, as well as the native CAD format.
• Ability to work onsite at NASA Langley.

Responsibilities

• Develop models in the form of .igs or .stp, as well as the native CAD format used for the design work.
• Develop CAD models for oscillation configurations that include location of mounting interface at specified reference points.
• Design geometry to accommodate thermal inset fasteners for accurate and reliable mounting to the balance sting.
• Create CAD solid models of free flight wind tunnel models using FDM 3D printing methods or similar.
• Design the models to enable a movable center of gravity.
