Job summary

CLFC Healthcare and Communications is expanding its North Carolina optometry coverage to deliver on-site eye and vision care at state-operated facilities serving adults and children with complex needs. These are clinical encounters, not routine checks.

The optometrist works with facility nursing and medical staff, documents findings the same day, and escalates urgent findings as needed. The engagement is per-assignment, with predictable weekday daytime hours, multi-site coverage, and mileage

Qualifications

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) from an accredited school.
• Active, unrestricted North Carolina optometry license or eligibility to obtain NC licensure prior to start.
• Clinical optometry experience.
• Not debarred or excluded from Medicare/Medicaid.
• Ability to clear background screening and meet facility health screening and vaccination requirements.
• Comfort working with vulnerable adult and pediatric populations in a secure state facility setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive eye and vision examinations for adult and pediatric resident populations.
• Diagnose and manage ocular conditions, and prescribe or fit corrective lenses and treatment as clinically indicated.
• Adapt examination technique and pacing for residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs.
• Coordinate in real time with the escorting facility staff member and with nursing and medical staff on resident eye-care plans.
• Provide written clinical findings and recommendations to facility medical staff on the day of the clinic.
• Refer to ophthalmology or specialty care when clinically indicated, and record the clinical reason for referral.
