Job summary

CLFC Healthcare and Communications is expanding its North Carolina optometry coverage to deliver on-site eye and vision care at state-operated facilities. Services target adults and children with mental illness, developmental disabilities, substance use disorders, and neuro-medical needs, in secure inpatient settings.

These are clinical encounters rather than routine checks. The optometrist collaborates with facility staff, documents findings the same day, and escalates urgent cases.

Qualifications

• OD degree from an accredited program.
• Active North Carolina optometry license or eligibility before start.
• Clinical optometry experience.
• Ability to clear background screening and vaccination requirements.
• Comfort working with vulnerable populations in secure settings.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive eye and vision examinations for adult and pediatric residents.
• Diagnose and manage ocular conditions, prescribe or fit lenses and treatments.
• Adapt examination technique for residents with disabilities.
• Coordinate with facility staff on resident eye-care plans.
• Provide written findings and recommendations to facility staff the day of the clinic.
• Refer to ophthalmology when indicated and record referral reasons.
