Job summary

CLFC Healthcare and Communications is expanding its North Carolina optometry coverage to deliver on-site eye and vision care at state-operated facilities. The optometrist will work with facility nursing and medical staff in a secure inpatient setting, performing exams and coordinating eye-care plans for adults and children.

As an independent contractor, the clinician helps provide timely care with predictable scheduling, while CLFC handles licensure, credentialing, and payment coordination.

Qualifications

• OD degree from an accredited school or college of optometry.
• Active, unrestricted NC optometry license or eligibility to obtain before start.
• Clinical optometry experience.
• Not debarred or excluded from Medicare or Medicaid.
• Ability to clear background screening and meet facility health screening and vaccination requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive eye and vision examinations for adult and pediatric resident populations.
• Diagnose and manage ocular conditions, and prescribe or fit corrective lenses and treatment as clinically indicated.
• Adapt examination technique and pacing for residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs.
• Coordinate in real time with the escorting facility staff member and with nursing and medical staff on resident eye-care plans.
• Provide written clinical findings and recommendations to facility medical staff on the day of the clinic.
• Refer to ophthalmology or specialty care when clinically indicated, and record the clinical reason for referral.
