Job summary

CLFC Healthcare and Communications is expanding its North Carolina optometry coverage to deliver on-site eye and vision care at state-operated healthcare facilities serving adults and children with mental illness and developmental disabilities. These are clinical encounters, not routine checks, scheduled weekday daytime clinics.

The engagement is per-assignment and flexible; coverage can be at a single facility or multi-site across NC, with predictable schedules set in advance.

Qualifications

• OD from an accredited school or college of optometry.
• Active, unrestricted North Carolina optometry license or eligibility to obtain licensure before start.
• Clinical optometry experience.
• Not debarred or excluded from Medicare/Medicaid.
• Ability to clear background screening and meet facility health/vaccination requirements.
• Comfort working with vulnerable adult and pediatric populations in a secure state facility.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive eye and vision examinations for adult and pediatric resident populations.
• Diagnose and manage ocular conditions, and prescribe or fit corrective lenses and treatment as clinically indicated.
• Adapt examination technique and pacing for residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs.
• Coordinate in real time with escorting facility staff and with nursing/medical staff on resident eye-care plans.
• Provide written clinical findings and recommendations to facility medical staff on the day of the clinic.
• Refer to ophthalmology or specialty care when clinically indicated, and record the clinical reason for referral.
