Job summary

CLFC Healthcare and Communications is expanding its North Carolina optometry coverage to deliver on-site eye and vision care at state-operated healthcare facilities serving adults and children with mental illness, IDD, substance use disorders, and neuro-medical complexity. These are clinical encounters, not routine retail checks.

The optometrist works alongside facility staff, documents findings the same day at the chair, and escalates urgent findings to the attending physician.

Qualifications

• OD degree from an accredited optometry program.
• Active, unrestricted North Carolina optometry license or eligibility to obtain licensure before start.
• Clinical optometry experience.
• Not debarred or excluded from Medicare/Medicaid.
• Ability to clear background screening and health/vaccination requirements.
• Comfort working with vulnerable adult/pediatric populations in secure facilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive eye and vision examinations for adults and children in resident facilities.
• Diagnose and manage ocular conditions and prescribe lenses or treatment as indicated.
• Adapt exam technique for residents with IDD or behavioral health needs.
• Coordinate with facility staff on resident eye-care plans.
• Provide written findings to the facility medical staff the same day.
• Refer to ophthalmology when needed and record reasons for referral.
