Job summary

CLFC Healthcare and Communications is expanding its North Carolina optometry coverage to deliver on-site eye and vision care at state-operated healthcare facilities serving adults and children with mental illness, developmental disabilities, substance use disorders, and neuro-medical complexity. These are clinical encounters, not routine retail checks.

The optometrist will work with facility staff, document findings the same day, and escalate urgent issues to the attending physician.

Qualifications

• OD degree from an accredited school or college of optometry.
• Active, unrestricted NC optometry license or eligibility to obtain NC licensure before starting the assignment.
• Clinical optometry experience.
• Not debarred or excluded from Medicare/Medicaid.
• Ability to clear background screening and meet health screening and vaccination requirements, including influenza vaccination.
• Comfort working with vulnerable adult and pediatric populations in a secure state facility setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive eye and vision examinations for adult and pediatric residents.
• Diagnose and manage ocular conditions, and prescribe or fit corrective lenses and treatment as indicated.
• Adapt examination technique and pacing for residents with IDD or behavioral health needs.
• Coordinate in real time with facility staff on resident eye-care plans.
• Provide written clinical findings and recommendations to facility staff the day of the clinic.
• Refer to ophthalmology or specialty care when indicated and record the reason for referral.
