Job summary

JLL is seeking a Fire Life Safety Operating Engineer in McLean, VA to ensure reliability and safety of life safety systems. You will participate in installations, maintenance, repairs, and vendor coordination while collaborating with engineering teams and client stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in facility or plant engineering maintenance.
• At least 1 year hands-on experience maintaining and repairing fire life safety systems and equipment.
• Working knowledge of electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems within commercial facilities.
• Familiarity with applicable fire and life safety codes, standards, and operational requirements.
• Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and support the full fire alarm system infrastructure.
• Experience coordinating with vendors, contractors, and internal engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance activities, inspections, and fire life safety system testing to ensure all systems remain fully operational and compliant.
• Escort fire life safety vendors during maintenance and repair activities while ensuring minimal disruption to building operations and client activities.
• Coordinate with the Chief Engineer, Lead Fire Life Safety Operating Engineer, and vendors to schedule preventative maintenance activities 6–12 months in advance.
• Support fire alarm system troubleshooting, device replacement, repairs, and system restoration activities as needed.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs related to fire system operations and emergency procedures.
• Initiate and close Change Controls within ServiceNow in accordance with established operational processes.
• Conduct safety checks on malfunctioning equipment, identify corrective actions, and support timely resolution of operational issues.
• Maintain inventory levels for parts, tools, and equipment required for maintenance, repairs, and new installations.
• Promote a professional, safe, and clean work environment while following all departmental policies related to hazardous materials handling and workplace safety.
