Job summary

JLL is seeking a Fire Life Safety Operating Engineer in McLean, VA to ensure reliability and safety of critical fire life safety systems. You will participate in installations, preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, and vendor coordination with engineering teams and client stakeholders.

The role requires 2+ years in facilities maintenance and 1+ year with fire life safety systems, plus strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in facility or plant engineering maintenance environments.
• At least 1 year of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing fire life safety systems and equipment.
• Working knowledge of electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems within commercial facilities.
• Familiarity with applicable fire and life safety codes, standards, and operational requirements.
• Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and support the full fire alarm system infrastructure.
• Experience coordinating with vendors, contractors, and internal engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to professionalism in appearance and client interactions.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and system testing of fire life safety systems.
• Escort vendors during maintenance/repairs with minimal disruption.
• Coordinate with engineers and vendors to schedule maintenance 6–12 months ahead.
• Troubleshoot and repair fire alarm systems as needed.
• Develop and maintain SOPs/MOPs/EOPs for fire system operations.
