Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners (Artec Leo, Eva, or Space Spider) on concrete, rebar, and fabrication projects, delivering meshes, point clouds, and scan-to-CAD files for client action.

You will plan scans, verify capture on site, process data in Artec Studio, and produce deviation maps and coordinate reports while traveling to regional hubs as needed. This role requires field work, safety awareness, and strong CAD familiarity.

Qualifications

Hands-on experience operating a handheld 3D scanner on real projects.
Working knowledge of Artec Studio or equivalent scan-processing software; mesh cleanup and registration.
Familiarity with CAD and reading structural/fabrication drawings.
Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment.
Valid driver's license with acceptable record; able to travel with equipment.

Responsibilities

Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement, failed structures, corroded pipe and tanks, fabricated steel and precast, machine parts, and modular units.
Control drift on large objects using reference features and overlapping zones.
Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt reports against drawings or CAD.
Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks; hand-clean meshes for modeling team.
Document capture procedures, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
