Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a trained 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners (Artec Leo, Eva, or Space Spider or equivalent) on diverse sites, process data in Artec Studio, and deliver mesh and CAD-ready outputs. You will verify data on-site, coordinate with plant staff, and travel to regional hubs as needed.

Requirements include hands-on handheld scanner experience, CAD familiarity, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects.
Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup, registration, export.
Familiarity with CAD and reading structural/fabrication drawings.
Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment, climb, and work outdoors.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable record.
Able to travel and fly with equipment as assigned.
Experience with scan-to-CAD, Geomagic Design X, or metrology reporting is a plus.
ACI, NICET, or ICC certifications a plus — sponsor them.

Responsibilities

Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of structures and components before concrete placement and during project work.
Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlapping zones.
Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export formats (STL, OBJ, E57, CAD).
Produce deviation maps, measurement reports, crack maps, and coordinate reports against drawings or CAD.
Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks.
Document capture procedures, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
Keep scanner, batteries, and calibration records organized and up-to-date.
Coordinate access, permits, safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
