Job summary

Ascension Health at Ascension St. Francis Hospital in Milwaukee, WI seeks a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant to join the Behavioral Health team. You will deliver tailored therapy and collaborate with the OT to adjust plans for patient independence and safer transitions home.

The role is full-time days, requiring a Wisconsin COTA credential and BLS within 30 days of hire. You will mentor therapy technicians and support families throughout the recovery process.

Qualifications

  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: BLS Provider within 30 days of hire date; COTA credentialed by Wisconsin MB.
  • Education: High School diploma with 2 years of experience OR Associate's/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable experience.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver personalized, evidence-based therapy to patients.
  • Track and communicate patient progress with the OT and revise goals.
  • Empower patients and families to manage deficits and transitions home.
  • Guide discharge planning, equipment, and community resources for ongoing success.

How you’ll make an impact in this role
  • Deliver personalized, evidence-based therapy: Implement tailored treatment plans using appropriate modalities to help patients regain independence and improve their quality of life.

  • Track and communicate progress: Document patient journeys and collaborate closely with the Occupational Therapist to revise goals and adapt treatment plans based on real‑time responses.

  • Empower patients and families: Educate individuals and their caregivers on managing deficits, building confidence for a safer transition home.

  • Guide seamless transitions: Coordinate discharge planning, recommending adaptive equipment and community resources to ensure ongoing success beyond clinical care.

  • Mentor support staff: Oversee therapy technicians to maintain high safety standards, seamless workflow, and quality care delivery across the team.

What minimum requirements you’ll need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credentialed from the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
