Job summary

South Shore Health is seeking a Unit Coordinator/Secretary to support nursing staff and patients on the unit. The role involves coordinating patient flow, orders and admissions, and performing general receptionist and clerical duties to keep the unit functioning smoothly.

The incumbent will provide resource support to clinicians, maintain accurate documentation, and participate in creating a culture of safety and compliance on the unit.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
• Basic computer knowledge is preferred.
• Able to communicate effectively and document information accurately.
• Able to deal effectively with a wide variety of individuals.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate nursing unit activities with patients, physicians and staff.
• Serve as receptionist and clerical support for efficient unit functioning.
• Process orders/admissions/discharges/transfers and ensure timely updates in systems.
• Maintain unit workflow, reports and chart audits as needed.
• Order and manage supplies in collaboration with supervisor.
• Uphold safety, privacy, and compliance standards.
• Act as preceptor and support staff with scheduling and day-to-day operations.
• Communicate changes in policy and equipment and escalate issues as needed.
