Job summary

South Shore Health System in Weymouth, MA is seeking a Part-time Unit Coordinator/Secretary for the SSH Emergency Department. The role supports nursing staff, patients, physicians and visitors by coordinating activities, handling orders, scheduling, and clerical tasks to maintain smooth unit operations.

Responsibilities include patient and family interactions, documentation, equipment and supply management, and adherence to safety and privacy standards.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
• Basic computer knowledge preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.
• Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates professional courtesy in all interactions and answers questions.
• Acts as resource person to nursing staff, clinicians and support services.
• Interacts with patient and families in a compassionate and humanistic manner, showing empathy, sensitivity and patience.
• Utilizes all software applications required by department and unit standards.
• Accesses Lotus Notes to review email, learning management and other resources.
• Scans orders to Pharmacy and alerts nurse to STAT orders; follows up on CPOE orders.
• Keeps bed tracking and PCS systems up to date.
• Books appointments through central scheduling and ensures discharge paperwork.
• Prints and files unit reports; completes daily chart audits.
• Orders supplies with Operations Supervisor and manages par levels.
