Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago, IL, seeks an Electrical Engineer to join our Nuclear Power Group. You will design, modify, and analyze electrical systems for existing nuclear plants, lead design change packages, perform calculations, and interface with multi-disciplinary teams.

You will also support site installations and client coordination, with occasional travel to plant sites and vendor offices as needed.

Qualifications

• Must have a BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering design for industrial applications, especially nuclear plants.
• Experience selecting equipment and preparing design change packages, specs, and calculations.
• Experience with low and medium voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors, relays).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail oriented approach; capability to be badged for unescorted nuclear access.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review design change packages to install, replace, or upgrade plant equipment.
• Prepare and review detailed engineering calculations: AC/DC power studies, short circuit, cable ampacity, voltage drop, breaker coordination, motor starting, relay settings.
• Prepare and review equipment procurement specifications.
• Participate in bid reviews and vendor communications; track questions/responses.
• Prepare scoping documents for conceptual designs and constructability reviews.
• Interface with project team across disciplines and with the client and vendors.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope.
• Travel to client and vendor sites for design reviews and field verification.
• Support site installation activities during project implementation.
• Assist the project manager to ensure on-time, within-budget delivery; manage scope, status meetings, progress reports, and issue resolution.
• Coordinate completion of project deliverables.
