Job summary

The Disabled American Veterans seeks an NSO Apprentice to participate in on-the-job training to serve veterans pursuing disability claims with the VA and other government entities.

Based in Baltimore, Maryland, you will conduct detailed interviews, review service and medical records, prepare submissions, monitor claim progress, advise on appeal options, and maintain professional communication with claimants, adjudicators, and DHA staff, while supporting DAV outreach and membership efforts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma (or equivalent).
• Must be eligible for DAV on-the-job training program and VA service.
• DAV member in good standing required.
• General knowledge of legal/medical terminology preferred.
• Understanding of administrative procedures and records management helpful.
• Driver's license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Acquire and maintain knowledge of veterans benefits laws and regs.
• Learn to conduct detailed interviews of veterans for accurate benefits identification.
• Review service and medical records to assess claims.
• Determine additional evidence needs and advise claimants.
• Prepare briefs and submissions for claims and appeals.
• Monitor claim progress and communicate with adjudicators.
