Job summary

The Disabled American Veterans in Baltimore seeks an NSO Apprentice to begin on-the-job training toward the National Service Officer designation.

You will study and train to represent veterans and families pursuing VA disability benefits, conduct interviews, review medical and service records, and assist with claim submissions.

This role requires a high school diploma, DAV membership in good standing, basic computer skills, and willingness to relocate nationwide for training and assignments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be eligible for VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Service on-the-job training under the National Memorandum of Agreement with DAV.
• Must be a member in good standing of the DAV.
• General knowledge of legal and/or medical terminology preferred.
• General understanding of business/administrative procedures and systems.

Responsibilities

• Acquire and maintain knowledge of laws/regulations pertaining to veterans benefits.
• Learn to conduct detailed interviews of veterans to elicit information for potential benefits.
• Review service and medical records to assess claim validity.
• Advise on additional evidence needed to support claims.
