Job summary

Safeway, Inc. is looking for a Person In Charge (PIC) to serve as the primary contact for customers and, in the absence of the Store Manager and assistants, to oversee store operations to maximize profit, efficiency, and customer service.

In this role, you will supervise store employees during night shifts, act as a Cashier-Checker, and perform various duties across departments to ensure smooth operation and excellent service for customers.

Qualifications

• Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
• Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Knowledge of all positions within the store.
• Ability to work independently.
• Desirable: Prior experience as a clerk or manager.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service within company policy.
• Handle emergencies, complaints, and supervise store personnel.
• Maintain familiarity with company policies and procedures.
• Supervise the sales floor to monitor service and product replenishment.
• Replace stock in displays around the checkout area.
• Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
• Assist other cashiers with register and scanner issues.
• Perform basic office functions to assist customers and personnel.
• Operate the cash register to total customers' final bill and receive payments.
• Bag groceries and assist customers with carry-out.
• Possibly perform close of day office tasks.
• Possibly count tills when others leave.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
