Job summary

Safeway, Inc. is seeking a Person In Charge (PIC) to serve as the primary customer contact and assume store leadership in the manager’s absence. You will supervise store employees, assist cashiers, and maintain safe, clean operations across departments.

The role emphasizes strong customer service, problem solving, and adherence to company procedures. Night shifts are typical, with responsibilities including opening/closing duties and stock replenishment.

Qualifications

• Ability to follow company customer service procedures. Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
• Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Knowledge of all positions within the store.
• Ability to work independently.
• Desired: Prior experience as a clerk or manager.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service as defined by the employer within scope and policy.
• Supervise store personnel in the absence of store leadership.
• Maintain familiarity with company policies and procedures.
• Supervise sales floor for service and replenishment of products.
• Replace stock in displays near the checkout area.
• Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
• Assist other cashiers with issues on computers, registers, and scanners.
• Perform basic office functions to assist customers and personnel.
• Operate cash register to total customers’ final bill and receive payment.
• Bag groceries and assist with carry out when needed.
• May be responsible for close of day tasks and counting tills.
• Other duties as assigned.
