Job summary

Ruby's Place in Alameda, CA is seeking a Program Advocate (Anchor Village) for weekend overnight coverage. This part-time role (16 hours/week) supports a drop-in center, shelter, and related services, delivering direct participant support in a trauma-informed environment.

You will work Saturday and Sunday nights 11pm–7am, collaborating with Site Coordinator and program staff to maintain safety, engage participants, and connect them with housing and case-management resources.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with individuals experiencing homelessness or in social services preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to stay calm and professional in challenging situations.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Experience working in shelters, day centers, or outreach programs.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and de-escalation techniques.
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
• Valid CA driver's license, proof of insurance, and be approved by RP insurance to drive agency vehicles.
• Ability to complete all required background checks, including fingerprinting (Live Scan) and CCL documents.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support to participants at the drop-in center.
• Assist with check-in, orientation, and explain program guidelines.
• Respond to participant needs and explain available resources.
• Maintain a respectful, welcoming environment for all participants.
• Monitor spaces for safety and adherence to program expectations.
• Conduct regular site checks to keep spaces calm and orderly.
• De-escalate conflicts as needed.
• Report safety concerns to Site Coordinator or Program Manager.
• Assist with daily program activities, setup, and participant flow.
• Support opening/closing procedures of Day Center, Night Shelter, or Safe Parking as assigned.
• Keep spaces clean, organized, and ready for use.
