Job summary

ChristianaCare's Project Engage is seeking a compassionate, dependable, Full-Time Peer Counselor I who demonstrates the ability to build trusting relationships and advocate for diverse patient population. The Peer Counselor will be supporting our Wilmington Hospital Emergency Department.

The Peer Counselor is a peer with lived experience recovering from a substance use disorder (SUD). S/he is responsible for engaging individuals who present at Christiana Care and who, through screening, are

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Willingness to self-disclose and pursue certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist within one year of hire.
• One year experience in the mental health field in voluntary or paid positions.

Responsibilities

• Screen, assess, and link individuals with SUD to treatment post-discharge.
• Use lived experience to engage patients and direct them toward recovery services.
• Conduct motivational interviewing and help patients overcome barriers to care.
• Educate patients and families on Narcan safety and use where appropriate.
• Document daily engagements and coordinate with ED staff and discharge coordinators.
