Job summary

Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, DE seeks a Full-Time Peer Counselor I to support the Emergency Department, using lived experience to engage patients with substance use disorders and connect them to community resources.

You will screen, assess, link to treatment, coach for discharge, document engagements, and collaborate with ED staff, discharge coordinators, and peer counselors to improve outcomes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Willing to self-disclose and attend training leading to certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist within one year of hire.
• One year experience working in the mental health field in voluntary or paid position required.

Responsibilities

• Screen, assess, and link individuals to treatment in the community after discharge.
• Engage patients using lived experience to motivate treatment and support recovery.
• Conduct bedside motivational interviewing to address barriers and direct to appropriate care.
• Provide Narcan education and distribute Narcan when appropriate.
• Submit referrals and coordinate care using open beds platform; follow up after discharge.
• Coordinate with ED staff and discharge coordinators to plan treatment.
• Document daily engagements on required forms.
• Assist clients in setting and achieving recovery goals.
• Other duties as assigned.
