Job summary

IU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to provide compassionate bedside care on three 12-hour night shifts. You will assist with meals, drinks, mobility, baths, and linen changes to ensure patient comfort and safety.

The PCA supports the bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting abnormalities, while following infection control and safety policies in a fast-paced hospital setting. This role offers an outstanding benefits package and opportunities for tuition reimbursement.

Qualifications

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients.
• Up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain concentration under interruptions and variable noise levels.
• Ability to set priorities and manage a high workload within limited time.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitious movements.
• Ability to read and perform basic math.

Responsibilities

• Assist with meals, drinks, mobility, baths, and linen changes to support patient comfort and safety.
• Provide compassionate bedside care and support patient needs.
• Observe and report changes in patient conditions to the RN or charge nurse.
• Utilize safety measures (gait belts, alarms) and remain within arm's reach when with patients.
