Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) for part-time night shifts to support bedside care including assisting with meals, mobility, personal hygiene, and comfort measures. The PCA will report vital signs and changes to the bedside RN and maintain patient safety with appropriate equipment and safety protocols.

The role emphasizes compassion, a caring bedside manner, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patients served.
• Up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to withstand high levels of tension and stress.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with drinks and meal ordering.
• Encourage walking and mobility.
• Assist with baths and personal hygiene.
• Provide clean linens and gowns.
• Support patient safety using gait belts and alarms.
• Monitor patients and report abnormalities to RN or charge nurse.
