Job summary

Indiana University Health, Bloomington, is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to support bedside care and enhance patient experiences. The role includes assisting with meals, mobility, baths, and linen exchanges, while working closely with the RN to monitor vital signs and report changes.

Applicants must have current Basic Life Support certification and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, safety awareness, and the ability to manage a high workload with composure.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients.
• Understanding of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to withstand high levels of tension and stress.
• Ability to maintain concentration amid interruptions and noise.
• Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in problem solving.
• Ability to set priorities and manage high workload within limited time.
• Knowledge of patient care equipment, software and standards for non-licensed roles (PCA).
• Knowledge of infection control principles.

Responsibilities

• Provide drinks and assist with meal ordering; encourage walking and assist with baths.
• Provide clean linens and gowns; ensure patient comfort.
• Obtain vital signs and report abnormalities to RN or charge nurse.
• Maintain patient safety using gait belts, alarms, and close supervision.
• Support bedside RN with clinical tasks in a fast-paced setting.
