Job summary

IU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to provide compassionate, hands-on support at the bedside. Duties include helping with meals, assisting with baths, obtaining basic patient information, and ensuring comfort and safety under the supervision of the bedside RN.

The role emphasizes quick thinking in a fast-paced hospital environment, safe patient handling with gait belts and alarms, and contributing to a positive patient experience through attentive care and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA or completion during PCA education program.
• Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients served.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to manage a high workload with focus and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with meals and hydration, walking encouragement, baths, and clean linens.
• Provide bedside support to the RN and report changes in patient condition promptly.
• Maintain patient safety using gait belts, alarms, and close observation.
