Emerus, a leader in small-format hospitals, seeks a Patient Access Specialist for the Kelly facility. You will facilitate patient tracking, verify demographics, secure payments, and maximize hospital reimbursement. Must handle insurance verification and registrations with accuracy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) required.
• Fluency in English; written and oral communication skills required.
• Spanish/English bilinguals may be required in certain markets.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and related regulations for Admissions and Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships with patients and families.
• Identify and triage patients on arrival to protect patient safety.
• Answer calls professionally and relay messages to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents as required.
• Enter complete demographic information to aid revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor and plan details.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as needed by plans.
• Pursue collections at service to maximize reimbursement.
• Scan and file registration and clinical documents.
• Coordinate patient transfers to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and log payments, transfers, and admissions.
• Maintain visitor/vendor logs.
