Job summary

Emerus Holdings, Inc. seeks a Patient Access Specialist for the Night Shift (7pm-7am) at our 20-bed Small-Format Hospital in North Las Vegas.

This PRN role coordinates patient tracking, verifies demographics, and secures payment responsibility to maximize hospital reimbursement. Responsibilities include patient registration, insurance verification, HIPAA compliance, excellent customer service, and accurate record keeping.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• Working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel and Outlook) preferred.
• Position requires fluency in English; written and oral communication.
• Fluency in English & Spanish is a requirement in the El Paso Market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all hospital and government regulations applicable to Admissions settings and handling of Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service at all times by meeting customer needs and building quality relationships.
• Assist with patient identification and triage on arrival to the hospital.
• Handle telephone inquiries professionally and relay messages to appropriate staff.
• Obtain and sign required forms and consents.
• Enter complete and accurate demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits for all plans and confirm correct payor and plan in the system.
• Obtain required insurance authorizations where applicable.
• Pursue collections at time of service in a customer-service oriented manner.
• Scan and file registration and clinical documentation.
• Coordinate transfers to other hospitals when necessary.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and log payments, transfers and admissions.
