Job summary

Emerus in the United States is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to serve as a liaison between patients, payers, and hospital teams. You will verify demographics, secure payments, and maximize reimbursement during the admissions process.

The role requires strong customer service, attention to detail, and knowledge of various insurance plans. Night shifts are offered with differential pay, and parking is provided.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience preferred.
• Knowledge of insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) preferred.
• Fluency in English; Spanish required in the El Paso market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and regulations applicable to Admissions.
• Provide excellent customer service at all times by meeting customer needs and building quality relationships.
• Protect patient safety by ensuring proper identification and triage on arrival.
• Answer telephone professionally and relay messages to appropriate staff.
• Provide and obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
• Obtain, verify, and enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle.
• Verify insurance benefits for plans and confirm correct payor and plan.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Maximize collection efficiency by pursuing collections at time of service.
• Scan registration and clinical documents and maintain medical records.
• Assist with coordinating patient transfers to other hospitals when necessary.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer according to policies.
• Maintain logs of patients, payments, transfers and admissions.
• Maintain visitor/vendor log.
