Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Night Shift Patient Access Specialist (PRN) to serve as a liaison among patients, payers, and health care teams. You will verify demographic information, secure payments, and maximize hospital reimbursement.

You will protect patient safety by proper identification and triage, answer calls, obtain signatures on forms, and ensure accurate insurance verification. Prior experience in patient registration and billing will support success in this role.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification in healthcare preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience preferred.
• Knowledge of HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid payors.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Fluency in English; bilingual English/Spanish preferred for the El Paso market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all regulations for Admissions and Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service by understanding customers and building relationships.
• Identify and triage patients for safety upon arrival to the hospital.
• Answer calls professionally and relay messages to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents as required.
• Enter complete demographic information to enable smooth revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and payor information for each patient.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Support collections at the time of service in a courteous manner.
• Scan and maintain registration and clinical documents in the system.
• Assist with transferring patients to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and log payments, transfers and admissions.
• Keep the front desk, waiting area and related spaces clean and organized.
• Attend required staff meetings and assist medical staff as needed.
