Job summary

Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, NM is hiring for a Patient Access Advocate I. The role handles primary registration of patient accounts for self-pay, government and commercial plans on date of service for scheduled and unscheduled visits.

You will verify demographics, insurance, collect charges and ensure accurate registration in the ADT system. The position requires knowledge of Medicare CMS guidelines and related regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• 6 months experience in healthcare setting or 1 year customer service background.
• Pass 2 week Patient Access Academy with a passing score of 85% or higher (within 6 mos of start).
• CHAA, CHAM or other industry equivalent certification preferred
• Basic understanding of insurance preferred.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology and billing codes (DRG, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) preferred
• Requires basic understanding of registration and healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient registration and enter demographic and financial information for accounts.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits using online verification or payer contact.
• Educate patients on insurance benefits and financial clearance obligations.
• Ensure accounts are financially cleared at time of service and maintain audit trail.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the system of record and meet productivity standards.
• Demonstrate CARES behaviors and escalate conflicts when needed.
