Job summary

Electrical Automation Services is seeking a Controls Engineer for a night shift on-site in Glendale, AZ. The role focuses on instrumentation, PLC/HMI troubleshooting, and leading automation projects across a beverage manufacturing facility.

You will work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering and quality teams, mentoring technicians and operators while advancing safety, reliability and throughput on high-speed equipment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience in engineering technology or related field.
• At least four years of automation/controls experience in high-speed manufacturing.
• Strong PLC troubleshooting and programming capabilities.
• Experience troubleshooting automated production, conveyor, and packaging equipment.
• Knowledge of HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, networks, and electrical control systems.
• Ability to diagnose complex controls problems and drive automation projects.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and control drawings.
• Strong communication skills across plant departments.
• Willingness to work a 2-2-3 night shift (6:00 PM–6:00 AM).

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary on-shift controls and automation expert.
• Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 troubleshooting for automated production, processing, and packaging equipment.
• Diagnose PLC, HMI, VFD, servo, instrumentation, and network issues.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures and restore production safely and efficiently.
• Identify recurring problems and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Develop and execute controls projects to improve safety, quality, reliability and throughput.
• Support high-speed beverage processing, filling, canning, conveying, and packaging systems.
• Participate in the Management of Change process for controls and processes.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering and quality on improvements.
• Provide technical leadership, training and mentorship to maintenance staff.
• Maintain backups, drawings, and change records.
• Support commissioning, upgrades, and system integration projects.
