Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a Nursing Assistant to provide comprehensive patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will assist with basic daily activities, monitor vitals, and help prepare patients for examinations.

This role emphasizes safety, respectful communication with patients and families, and collaboration with the care team to deliver high-quality, cost-effective care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Assists in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• Assists all assigned patients with activities of daily living according to need in a timely manner including making all assigned beds.
• Safely transports and patients to tests and procedures and escorts patients for discharge.
• Transports specimens and items throughout the facility.
• Performs routine phlebotomy services, excluding line draws, in departments determined by management.
• Obtains and records vital signs and inputs/outputs per policy.
• Provides respiratory support by setting up equipment needed for oxygen administration.
• Observes and reports patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.
• Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures per departmental procedure.
• Assists physicians and registered nurses with examinations and procedures.
• Assists with basic rehab activities and ambulation.
• Communicates nutrition issues to RN.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment to prevent infections and ensure safety.
• Reports equipment repairs in a timely manner.
