Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital in Ohio seeks a Behavioral Health Technician I to support care for children and adolescents aged 5–17 in the inpatient behavioral health unit or ED. Under RN guidance, you will assist with direct care, participate in psychoeducational activities, and maintain safety.

Responsibilities include data collection, care planning, documentation, crisis support, and collaboration with the treatment team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree for counseling, psychology, social work or related degree, or nursing preferred.
• Associate degree is preferred.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required.
• 0 to 2 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Collects data and contributes to assessment, planning and evaluation of care for pediatric patients.
• Provides direct care in collaboration with licensed RNs and other staff.
• Facilitates psychoeducational and therapeutic activity groups per treatment plan.
• Documents in the medical record according to hospital policy.
• Encourages activities of daily living and maintains a safe, therapeutic environment.
• Maintains communication with the treatment team and charge nurse regarding patient observations.
• Manages crisis situations using positive approaches.
• Provides instructions to patients and families under RN direction.
• May apply, monitor and remove patient restraints as per protocol.
• Demonstrates understanding of cultural diversity.
• Performs environmental safety rounds and reports safety/ security issues.
