Job summary

Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa is seeking a Communications Clerk for the night shift to operate the switchboard and provide courteous, accurate service to patients, physicians, and staff. You will manage paging, on-call schedules, emergency codes, and information distribution using standard systems and scripts.

The role requires strong communication, confidentiality, and the ability to perform under pressure. Prior hospital switchboard experience is preferred and may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with switchboard operations preferred.
• Good communication, confidentiality, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Answers phone and directs calls using approved scripting.
• Operates paging systems and coordinates on-call schedules.
• Handles emergency calls and follows code procedures.
• Maintains contact with security, engineering, and staff as needed.
• Supports patient care communications and departmental duties.
