Job summary

MercyOne in Mason City, IA is seeking a Communications Clerk for the night shift. You’ll operate the hospital switchboard, direct calls, and provide courteous service to patients, physicians, and staff.

You will manage paging systems (Zetron, Spok), schedule on-call rosters in Smartsheet, handle emergency codes, weather alerts, and ensure confidentiality.

Requires a high school diploma, computer skills, and switchboard experience; BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRP/MANDT/TNCC training encouraged.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with switchboard operations preferred.
• Proficient in computer operations.
• Voice modulation, dexterity, coordination, and sound judgement are essential.
• Able to work a flexible schedule and maintain confidentiality.
• Must be able to provide required safety certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, MANDT, TNCC).

Responsibilities

• Answer phones and direct calls to proper locations using scripting.
• Operate Zetron Paging System and arrange new/loaner pagers.
• Input call schedules into Smartsheet On-Call Scheduling Sheets and keep up-to-date.
• Coordinate on-call schedules and post online.
• Handle after-hours calls for physicians and emergency lines.
• Manage emergency codes and use approved communications for alarms.
• Distribute patient mail and maintain directory information.
• Use Spok and other systems for paging, logging, and notifications.
• Attend meetings and ensure safety communications comply with policies.
