Job summary

AbbVie is seeking a senior Publications leader to guide cross-functional teams in executing publication plans for key assets. You will ensure alignment with strategic publication platforms and oversee resources, timelines, and budgets.

The role requires mentoring medical writers and coordinating with external vendors to deliver high-quality manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations. Collaborating with the Scientific Communications Director and Medical Affairs, you will optimize staffing

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; PhD, PharmD, or Master’s preferred.
• 4–5 years of medical/scientific publications experience in pharma or related fields.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in managing teams.
• Ability to interpret medical data for publication planning and strategy.
• Knowledge of clinical publication structures and regulatory best practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for senior audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional Publications Team(s) for assigned assets and drive publication plan execution.
• Oversee tactical publication activities: manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations.
• Ensure quality and alignment with Scientific Communication Platforms and plans.
• Partner with Directors to align publication strategy and budget with resources.
• Manage outsourcing budgets and internal resource needs for assets.
• Provide mentoring and oversight to internal/external medical writers.
• Direct external vendors to deliver high-quality publications on schedule.
• Address publications issues and maintain accurate publication records.
