Job summary

UC Irvine Health is seeking a Laboratory Phlebotomy Technician to perform specimen processing, collection, and quality review in the Referral Lab. The role includes phlebotomy duties, specimen preparation, and timely dispatch to outside labs.

A California Phlebotomy License is required. Ideal candidates have strong communication, customer service skills, and the ability to manage workload while maintaining professional relationships across the health system.

Qualifications

• Technical knowledge of lab procedures, functions and processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• State of California Phlebotomy License (Certified Phlebotomy Tech I).
• Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.
• Prefer one year of phlebotomy experience or completion of UCI phlebotomy program.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen processing and accessioning in the Referral Lab.
• Performs various types of specimen collection, phlebotomy, and drug test monitoring.
• Reviews lab reports and performs quality review and troubleshooting, resolving problems as they occur.
• Serves as member of laboratory client services team.
• May prepare specimens for testing, accessioning and packaging for dispatch to outside labs according to written protocols.
